The essential difference between PFA pipes and PTFE pipes lies in the materials they use. It is also easy to distinguish between these two plastic materials. From their appearance, PFA is translucent, while PTFE is pure white and opaque; In the shape of raw materials, PFA is granular, while PTFE is powdery.
In summary, PFA plastic is a copolymer of a small amount of perfluoropropyl perfluoroethylene ether and polytetrafluoroethylene. Its characteristics are enhanced melt adhesion, decreased solution viscosity, and no change in performance compared to polytetrafluoroethylene. This type of resin can be directly processed into products using ordinary thermoplastic forming methods, suitable for making corrosion-resistant parts, wear reducing and wear-resistant parts, seals, insulation parts and medical device parts, high-temperature wire and cable insulation layers, anti-corrosion equipment, sealing materials, pump valve bushings, and chemical containers.
The long-term use temperature of PFA is -196-260 degrees Celsius, which has excellent chemical corrosion resistance and is resistant to all chemicals, with the lowest friction coefficient among plastics; At the same time, it also has excellent electrical properties, and its electrical insulation is not affected by temperature. Its chemical resistance is similar to that of polytetrafluoroethylene, but better than that of vinylidene fluoride.
Furthermore, PFA has better creep resistance and compressive strength than polytetrafluoroethylene, high tensile strength, and an elongation of 100-300%. And it has good dielectric properties and excellent radiation resistance; The flame retardancy reaches V0 level, and the PFA pipe made from it also possesses the excellent performance mentioned above.
And PTFE is polytetrafluoroethylene, which has the characteristics of acid resistance, alkali resistance, and resistance to various organic solvents, and is almost insoluble in all solvents. At the same time, polytetrafluoroethylene has the characteristic of high temperature resistance and extremely low friction coefficient, making it an ideal coating for easy cleaning of the inner layer of water pipes in addition to lubrication.
It has been proven through practice that PTFE can withstand atmospheric aging; Radiation resistance and low permeability; Long term exposure to the atmosphere, with unchanged surface and performance. At the same time, it can also withstand acid and alkali, so it is insoluble in strong acids, alkalis, and organic solvents. The performance of plastic pipes made of such materials should not be poor, after all, the raw materials have the above characteristics.
